PO SHUN LEONG

(1941- )

Po Shun Leong was trained as an architect in his native UK and arrived in Mexico in 1965, where he remained until 1989 when he moved his family to California. He quickly found his way through the Mexican scene, building secondary schools in rural Michoacán and becoming part of the Olympic Cultural Committee, which made the famous “Ruta de la Amistad,” a parcours of sculptural interventions marking the route towards the campus of the National University. Leong proved to be a gifted furniture designer too, and he designed and fabricated exquisitely simple pieces for homes and hotels, as well as for himself, through which he explored a variety of forms, associated mostly with the countryside and the seascape. Despite their apparent simplicity, each piece by Leong has proved to be a meaningful challenge for our design teams at Clásicos Mexicanos, a fact that has made us appreciate his work increasingly with each chair, table or stool that we add to our collection.
