With a career spanning architecture, sculpture, and furniture design, Po Shun Leong is a multifaceted creator known for his intricate and sculptural designs. Of British origin, Leong arrived in Mexico in the mid-1960s, a period that deeply influenced his creative trajectory. In 1964, he joined the Comité Administrador del Programa Federal de Construcción de Escuelas (CAPFCE), helping design more than 70 secondary schools in the state of Michoacán. As part of the 1968 Olympic Games, he participated in the International Meeting of Sculptors, which led to the creation of the renowned Ruta de la Amistad.
During his time in Mexico, Leong designed a series of furniture collections, including Tulum, Chamela, and Palapa, inspired by Mexican traditions and craftsmanship. With his Ono Chair and the famous Aca Lounge Chair, he experimented with industrial techniques and new materials such as plastic and fiberglass. Leong participated in several design exhibitions, including those at the Galería Universitaria Aristos and the Museo de Arte Moderno in Mexico City, gaining significant national and international recognition. In 1981, he emigrated with his family to California, where he has lived ever since. His work evolved toward more artistic creations, such as his iconic sculptural wooden boxes, Landscape Boxes, which showcase his mastery as a woodworking artist.
